Tissot is a genuine Swiss watch brand

Tissot was founded in 1853 by Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile Tissot. Tissot was set up as a comptoir d'établissage, a network of independent craftsmen specializing in the production of watch parts. At the time, the watches were assembled and sold from the comptoir. At that time, all Tissot watches were pocket watches, watch pendants or manufacture watches, mainly produced for the American market. From 1917, the company started producing blank movements, which resulted in a merger with Omega in 1930. They formed the first Swiss watch association: the SSIH (Société Suisse pour l'Industrie Horlogère).

Tissot 1853

The founding year of Tissot, 1853, is still mentioned on the dial of Tissot watches.

Tissot as the foundation of the Swatch Group

During the economic crisis of the 1970s, which hit the Swiss watch industry hard, a new threat came with the arrival and popularity of Asian quartz watches. In 1983 Nicolas G. Hayek ensured that the SSIH merged with the ASUAG (Allgemeine Schweizerische Uhrenindustrie AG). This merger formed the foundation of the Swatch Group of which Tissot is still a part.
Today, the Swatch Group is the largest watch manufacturer and distributor in the world and is still based in Le Locle, Switzerland. It is not surprising that one of the best-selling classic Tissot watches is called Le Locle.

Innovative Tissot watches: T-Touch

In addition to their extensive collection of classic watches, Tissot is also famous for its many innovations. In 1853, the brand introduced the first mass-produced pocket watch and the first pocket watch with two time zones. Tissot was also the first watch manufacturer to make watches from plastic (which would later form the basis for Swatch watches), stone, mother-of-pearl and wood. In 1999, Tissot introduced its first touchscreen watch, the world famous T-Touch watch. Watches with this technology feature a touch-sensitive sapphire crystal to operate the various functions, such as compass, barometer, altimeter and thermometer. The T-Touch series is still part of the current Tissot watch collection.

Tissot and MotoGP

Tissot releases a Limited Edition Moto GP watch every year. Created in collaboration with motorcycle mechanics and motorcyclists, Tissot's MotoGP watches are the epitome of speed and excitement in watch form.
